This is Bunny

Because of two "Pet Heroes" we were able to help Bunny through A Cause For Paws. Bunny needed emergency surgery and her pet parent's needed some assistance with the bill. Bunny's mom said droplets of joy ran down her cheek when we were able to step in and help her baby girl.

Meet Momo

Momo and her cat buddies; Jersey, Orange and Yogi were in need of cat food. Their mom is on disability and occasionally finds it hard to make ends meet. Three of our "Pet Heroes" made sure that these kitty cats had enough to eat by providing a donation to A Cause For Paws.

Boy and his dog 1900The Humane Society of St. Joseph and Buchanan County Missouri was incorporated in 1890 and reincorporated in 1901.

The object of the society at that time read as follows:
“The objects of this society shall be and are, by all lawful means to aid in protecting children and preventing cruelty thereto, and in preventing cruelty to animals, and in promoting humane sentiments among all classes of persons; also the care or protection of abandoned, ill-treated and friendless children.”

When more agencies came into being as champions for the protection of children, many organizations with dual purposes, such as ours, turned their focus to the welfare of animals.

Thus the purpose of the society was amended as follows:

“To instill a respect for all life; to aid and protect animals; to promote humane education for the health, treatment and protection of animals, domestic and wild life.”

The Humane Society of St. Joseph and Buchanan County Missouri is a private, not-for-profit corporation under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS. We are not affiliated with, nor do we receive funding from any other humane organizations. We do not receive funding from state, county, federal or municipal sources.
